Welcome to the world of Bioshock. Every game has a plot twist, but you'll rarely see it coming. Bioshock 2 and Infinite is absolutely worth playing - I'd say Infinite is even better than Bio 1 and 2. Bio2 is fantastic as well, the small annoyances in the first game (such as the mini hacking game is replaced and improved). So, yes, definately play Bio2 and Infinite. IGN gave Bio1 9.3, Bio2 9.1 and Infinite 9.4 out of 10 in their reviews.
As for the Bio 1 storyline:
Long story short. you absolutely have to play Bio2 and Infinite.

I thought Bio2 was a "more of the same" kind of deal and not worth playing unless you're really involved in the universe?
I was glad to reach the end and I'm happy to move onto Infinite.

I don't think so. The story is completely different, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The final battle is EPIC.
Rather than a capitalistic regime, it's now run by Dr. Sofia Lamb, in some sort of pseudo-communistic totalitarian regime. And of course, playing as a Big Daddy is awesome.

Yep. 10 years after the events of the first game.
The proper way to play the games is Bio 2, Infinite, and the subsequent short DLCs Burial at Sea. The DLCs tie together the events of Infinite (set in 1912) with the events leading up to Bioshock 1, and closes the storyline.

starting Bio 2. Seems to carry on from the previous game, which I like.
Bioshock reminds me of a good book - you don't want to do/read it in a lost moment. You want to do/read it in some time you set aside especially for it, to immerse yourself in it fully.
@PTRACER : did you really meet Andrew Ryan?!

Very well put. It demands a lot from the player, but if you allow yourself to get immersed into the story, it's hugely rewarding.

In Pauper's Drop now.
Is it me, or are the female Splicers in Bioshock 2 dressed quite sexy?
