Sad way for him to finish his career but every time I see the images of that Armco barrier the way it was ripped open I just see Cevert’s car at Watkins Glen
1973 and we all no what happened to him so it’s probably best he isn’t going to race anymore

I was quite surprised to read in Toto Wolff's comment about GRO crash, saying something like "...we need to understand what happened and why the barrier let the car through...".
Of course it did, it is Armco after all! It is the same as it was with Cevert and Koinigg.
Well, this is kinda morbid to say, but now that we’ve established that the tub withstood the impact, I feel like ARMCO barriers (when installed correctly, looking at you, Watkins Glen...) are one of the safest forms of crash barrier when SAFER is not available.
We’ve unfortunately seen the consequence of a car bounce across the track after hitting a tire barrier, and a concrete wall could send a car richocheting across the track even more severely if it’s angled toward the track.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents.

Yes, I'm not going to lie - I felt very uneasy about their decision to put concrete barriers in a place where a head on impact happened.
I thought that at the time too. Not even any tyre barriers there to protect it.

Sorta. He's lucky the nose was at just the right height at moment of contact, separating the rails (helping the deceleration), and the halo did it's thing. It could have turned out very, very differently if one of those things didn't happen........
Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end.....

I thought I read somewhere there's going to be Safer Wall also. It's working pretty well over here.
