Wait, what, the race isn't this weekend?

Last time I was this early, the Mongols still hadn't invaded Persia and killed the Khwarazam Shah by pouring molten silver into his mouth.

See I don't get why it's called the Eifel Grand Prix, all that does is makes me think of the Eiffel Tower and France, not Germany.
Just so you all know, and to prevent confusion, I am indeed a woman ;)

The circuits sits in the Eifel mountains region of Germany, while the Eiffel tower was named after Gustave Eiffel, its architect.

And I believe Hockenheim has some kind of right to the German GP currently.

Does anyone else really hate that we had a 70th anniversary grand Prix? I think it's the first time a Grand Prix has not had a place as it's title..? (Technically I'd count Caesar's Palace, Pacific, etc as places) AVUS GP I guess was the name of the track but that's still a place..

It was easily the most stupid name for a GP yet. East Midlands GP would have sounded a lot cooler. Or the Stirling Moss Memorial GP if they wanted to be different.

Based on this.. it would have made even more sense than ever to call this the European Grand Prix

Probably more in tune and relevant to when they used to (1997/98) call the second German race the Luxembourg GP.

Yeah for sure that covers 1997, but what about 1998? No European GP that year, although I guess the Luxembourg GP precedent had been set by then. :dunno:

I read somewhere that they had considered another European Grand Prix at Jerez in the early stages of the 98 season planning, and so had to commit early to the Luxembourg Grand Prix title. In the end, Jerez didn't happen but they couldn't change Nurburgring's race to the European
