Re: Vettel leaves Ferrari

Latest post of the previous page:

His mate Mark Webber thinks he should quit Ferrari before the end of the year. (Note the name of the podcast!) :suspicious:
Speaking on the latest In The Fast Lane podcast, Vettel’s former team-mate Webber said the two parties would be better off parting ways early.

“I think the relationship is over, the chemistry is gone, the marriage is over,” said Webber.

“Sebastian is dressed in red and is driving a red car, but he’s there for himself obviously.

“In some scenarios, you would wish it can be over now because that’s pretty much how it’s looking from a dynamic perspective.

“Sebastian, after the race, was empty. If that was a normal green flag race I think Ferrari still would have got absolutely belted, there’s no question about it.

“The Seb scenario, the sooner that’s over the better for everyone concerned.”

Webber said he was surprised to learn Vettel wasn’t offered an extension and that discussions between the parties didn’t take place.

Team boss Mattia Binnotto informed Vettel via phone of Ferrari’s decision not to extend the German driver’s contract.

“I think it surprised most of us, obviously Sebastian probably the most,” Webber said of the Ferrari decision.

“And even probably the way he was told, obviously over the phone and not really making even an effort to get in front of him.

“Clearly that relationship or the dynamic of how that was going wasn’t healthy and they just thought it was best to not continue.

“You can’t be half pregnant with these contracts. It’s not like it was a one-year contract.

“Sebastian was going back to them wanting more of a long term agreement.

“Not even that was tabled. It was something that Ferrari wasn’t considering.”

Honestly as a Vettel fan I didn't want him to retire, however, having seen the mistake he made in Austria and knowing how many others he's made, I sort of wish he would before I lose all respect for his driving abilities. :(
Yea, he does seem to want to reinforce the point that with his four championship wins at Red Bull he was a good driver in a great car, instead of a great driver in a good car. This is the season for him to prove his critics wrong. He has gotten a bad start.

He is right. And I am also hoping he steps aside before the season's end. The thing is, who would take over?

Their nominated Test/reserve/third drivers for 2020 are listed as:

Antonio Giovinazzi
Antonio Fuoco
Davide Rigon
Pascal Wehrlein

I thought Fuoco was no longer part of their driver academy, but does simulator work, or ued to. Rigon is in the academy, but of late has only driven a Ferrari for AF Corse in Endurance racing.
I cant see Wehrlein getting the gig after so long out of F1

So Gio would probably get the nod, and with Kubica the third driver for Alfa ...... NNNNOOOOOO.

Maybe it could get to be Hulk's lucky day..... :dunno:

A solution that might suit all parties based on rumours from 10 days ago that suggested Alonso would take over the Renault from Hungary.

Alonso drives for Renault from Hungary (Good for the team and car development)
Ricciardo moves to Mclaren early (Ricciardo gets a more competitive car)
Sainz moves to Ferrari early (They get rid of Vettel, Mclaren get compensation for Sainz, plus he can't take any sensitive information)

All good, and this is Formula 1, the sport where Johnny Herbert once turned up to test a Ligier and was told he'd be driving a Benetton.

Vettel to Red Bull Racing, Albon to Toro Rosso, Kvyat or Gasly finally says bye bye to Red Bull, but one of them goes to Haas where Grosjean is finally let go?

Horner has answered such rumours of Vettel to RBR (after Vettel had confirmed to the press he would be happy to return to Red Bull) with an emphatic sort of Not as long as his bum faced to the ground type of No.

Marko has also said he had already told Vettel it was a no-no.
RBR are 'committed to Max and Alex'.

So it seems options are very slim for Sebastian.

https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/15046 ... efinite-no
Red Bull Racing Formula 1 boss Christian Horner has said a "definite no" to the prospect of Sebastian Vettel rejoining the team in 2021.

Vettel's name has been liked with a return to the team he won all four of his world titles since news of his departure from Ferrari at the end of this season first emerged.

The German has admitted that he immediately called Red Bull motor sport boss Helmut Marko after Ferrari gave him the news, although he insists it was to get advice and not ask for a drive.

The team management has consistently said that there is no seat available as it has complete faith in Alex Albon as Max Verstappen's team-mate.

"Obviously the subject has been raised," Horner told Sky F1.

"Our commitment is to our existing drivers.

"We think we've got a great pairing in Max and in Alex, and we think that that has great potential for the future as well.

"Unfortunately it's not something we're going to be able to accommodate."

Asked if that was a definite no, he said: "That is a definite no I'm afraid. Sebastian is aware of that.

"It's unusual for a four-time world champ to be out of a drive at this point of the year.

"I guess he's got a couple of choices available to him, I assume either Racing Point, or a year out and re-evaluate the options in a year's time."

Horner suggested that the Silverstone team - which becomes Aston Martin in 2021 - could be a possibility despite Sergio Perez having a long term deal to partner Lance Stroll, son of team owner Lawrence.

"I don't think Lance is going to get fired!," said Horner.

"Of course drivers' contracts between the teams, you never know what's within them, it's only the Contract Recognition Board that has full sight of them.

"I'm sure that perhaps they have options, or break points, or whatever. But that's really none of our business."

Speaking to Austrian TV channel ORF on Friday morning, Red Bull motorsport chief Helmut Marko backed up Horner's position.

"We, and I've also told Sebastian this, have no chance of giving him a seat in 2021," he said.

"We are now planning for 2021, and there is no chance for Sebastian."

And Gasly's seat was 100% secure. :sarcasm:

Can we rename this thread? Every time I see it I think that Vettel has left with immediate effect, which is incorrect.

"Future of Seb Vettel" would do.

Why would RBR do it? Seriously?

He's driving crap.
If he doesn't drive crap, he'll upset Max.
He's expensive.
