It's a damn shame it's only a livery for testing.

Day 1 of pre-season testing at Spain's Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is underway.
ATM (12,00 midday CET) Bottas is fastest,
No break downs yet, with everyone having completed at least 33 laps. (Max has already done a race distance.)

Edit: times for the session up to midday:

The whole snakeskin livery was some sort of metaphor for Alfa "shedding it's skin". If it moves any closer to the top teams as a result of said skin shedding however, remains to be seen. I doubt it.

Trivia I wasnt aware of.... Ferrari have named their 2020 car the SF1000, named for the fact this season will include the team's 1000th world championship race.

Considering we only had the 1000th (championship) F1 race ever last year, I think that is really amazing.

So over to the trivia specialists. Which races did they miss?

I can imagine the races run under NART colors in 1964 would be a part of that list. Belgium 1982, also, and the 1961 US GP after von Trips' death.
Probably all the Indy 500's as well.

Did they skip any more races during the FISA/FOCA wars?

OK 25 races that they didn't enter, and another three that they entered but never started is my reckoning.

The three they entered and did not start:
France 1950 they withdrew both works cars.
Belgian GP 1982 they withdrew because of Gilles in qualifying.
1982 Swiss GP. On the back of GVs death and Pironis crash earlier in the year Ferrari had only been entering one car, for Tambay... Tambay had a back problem and could not race.

Races completely missed.

They missed Silverstone 1950 because of a start money argument,
They missed 10 of the 11 1950's Indy 500 races.
They missed the 1959 British GP because of a strike in Italy.
1962 French GP. Another strike in Italy.
1966 British GP. Another strike in Italy.
The two end of season USGPs in 1960 and 1961.
Because they had a bad year in 1962 they got the sulks and did not bother with the last two races (US and SA)
1966 Mexican GP. Again the last race of the year and Brabham had cleaned up so they got the sulks again.
1967 South Africa. It was early in the year with a 4 month gap until the 2nd race.
1968 they had a quiet year with only one car at most events and missed Germany completely.
Again in 1973 they had a low key year because their car was shit. They missed the Dutch and German GPs.
1976 Austrian GP. Enzo cracked the shits because the FIA reinstated Hunts Spanish GP DSQ

OK, morning session done. As mentioned some impressive lap counts for a day 1.... but I guess the fact the cars are all basically evolutions and updates on last year it is to be expected.

Morning times and laps done:

So from the sounds of things it's goodbye title fight. I know it's only testing, but when Merc comes out and sets consistent laptimes you know it's got a load more in the tank.

Just to confirm the times we saw in testing..... remember it is only day 1 of testing and whether or not teams are keeping their powder try is most likely (although Williams were throwing soft tyres at their car perhaps their needs are different to the major teams. Ferrari changed rheir proposed driver lineup, when Charles Leclerc was given a call-up to spend the whole day in the Ferrari SF1000, after Sebastian Vettel was taken ill and opted to return to his hotel to recuperate.

As mentioned earlier reliability was good and the shortened number of test days this year over last saw plenty of laps covered.... 1,358 laps were completed by the ten cars, the equivalent of over 20 Spanish Grand Prix distances.

End of day 1.

Hot damn. The nose/front wing design looks pretty radical.

But if you squint your eyes a little...
