Guess the Pole 2019: Abu Dhabi [+the Final RESULTS]

Post by XcraigX »

It's the last round of 2019! The F1 Championships are all set, but we need to decide who the most accurate and consistent guessers are on this forum.

Last year's Accuracy Champ, John has been in rare form and with his win in Brazil, has a shot at taking the Points Championship from last year's winner, returning Point Champion, and season long leader MonteCristo. But it's a long shot. Let's sum up the standings below:
the coolest guy on the forum wrote: In the Accuracy Championship, xcraigx maintains a healthy lead over MonteCristo.
Accuracy Player
24.725 xcraigx
31.631 MonteCristo
33.664 Megallos
46.943 John
It's going to take a huge screw up on my part to lose this one (but it's been done before - see Brazil 2009).
the coolest guy on the forum wrote: In the Points Championship, John made some ground up to our DearLeader™ MonteCristo, but needs another win with Monte scoring 6th or worse. It's gonna be tight!

Pts Player
90 MonteCristo
82 John
8 points separate these two. It's going to come down to who can get the time right. Don't forget the bonus for exact time guesses is still at play. 20 points go to whomever gets it exactly. Who are you rooting for? Should we start taking odds on these guys?

It's all or nothing this round, so get your guess in early!

Oh yeah, there's a race this weekend also...

C'mon John, that too long ago for any of us to remember! ;)

Next, you're going to tell us that Valtteri Bottas led the WDC championship earlier this year. :haha:

Congrats Megallos! Looks like everyone else was quite optimistic...

Also, it looks like @MonteCristo is the champion, with @XcraigX taking accuracy.

:trophy: :flag: The 2019 GTP Accuracy Champion is XcraigX! :flag: :trophy: I bet on a typhoon washout for Japan and it worked!! While I had very few wins this year, several podiums helped here also.

The full results for Accuracy:

Accuracy Player
25.054 xcraigx
32.409 MonteCristo

:trophy: :flag: The 2019 GTP Points Champion is MonteCristo! :flag: :trophy: This is the second year in a row he has captured the title! MonteCristo had a very Keke Rosberg - like year. Only 3 wins, but was on the podium almost every round (and held the points lead for more than 1/2 the season). Great job getting it in there Monte!

The full results on Points:

Thanks to everyone for playing! It's been a great year!

Let's work on recruitment of some more players for next year! The more people that have skin in the game, the better it is!

We also need some more people to weigh in on Rule 11 for GTP. The vote is still split 6 v 6. How else do you recommend we break the tie? If not, I'm just going to decide.

I think I may have miscalculated the amount of points needed to beat Monte and put an undue amount of players between him and myself for this round

Regardless, great job again, Monte! Brilliant job!

And the same goes to Craig, you're doing a terrific job running this show. And yes, we need more players for next year. the other option would perhaps be a 5-3-1 points system or similar to ensure that not everyone gets points for playing. But that's a moot point if we have 8-9 entries for each round.

Another thing I'd like to see implemented is the removal of the possibility to see everyone's guesses until after the deadline. To spice it up a little.

There was a year when we first introduced the new database where you could not see the guesses until after the deadline. (Previous to this is was all manual via open time statements in the forum.) I agree it was a harder game without knowing where you stood and there was a greater distance between the places in the championships. However, the masses cried out and I put the feature in that we have today.
I am for the removal, but not sure how everyone else feels.
