No idea what happened other than the title of the this thread. Also haven't read any of the above posts. But the race is about to start in my VLC Media Player and I am STOKED.
They invented a safety car to spice up things. Until then it was the usual tyre strategy bs. Max win was never in doubt but at least we saw good racing from albon and sainz. The bad thing is on ferrari drivers. It’s 4/5 months they were doing anything to collide and at the end they succeded in such a disaster. They are both responsible, they drive like haas drivers. I gave it a 8

I think they brought out the safety car because they needed a retrieving vehicle on track.
They didnt need a retrieving vehicle in all honesty.... Bottas was hidden behind an armco barrier next to a gap designed for dead cars to be moved through. The car could safely have been pushed through that with just a yellow in that corner. (Bottas went out of his way to park somewhere far enough from the track where an SC would not be needed.)
It was one NASCAR or some other theatrical entertainment would be proud of.
The only valid reason for an SC would have been for the amount of debris on track, but to ensure they got their last lap green the debris was never properly cleared, Fabricated bullshit.

Back in 2001, there was a safety car for less than one lap. SC came out the end of Lap 1 and came in at the beginning of Lap 3. That was all that was necessary for the race today.
After a good sleep, I've decided to give it a 9. Great action throughout, several passes for the lead on the track (thanks to Safety Car issues). But minus 1 because some of the action was forced. The first SC was unnecessary at best.
Nothing happened in the first 50 laps but then FIA went full NASCAR and threw a BS safety car for Bottas. And Liberty sure got their money's worth with what happened after that. Gasly, Sainz & Giovinazzi with their PB results, nobody saw this coming.
Interlagos has been a very good track for racing, it's a shame the new Rio project will probably take over as the GP host down the stretch.
Maybe. But Rio is bankrupt and doesn't have the money to build that track. Plus it's built on a nature reserve (not that Bolsonaro cares) and they can't get the necessary permits to build.
Meanwhile Sao Paulo is working on an extension. Brazilian politics is the usual mess.
I'm sure the Interlagos people can be as corrupt as the Rio lobbyists and they have the track in place already so that's an obvious advantage. I wonder how long it takes for Rio to get over the Olympics and the financial effect? Unless nobody cares there if the numbers add up or not?

The safety car was thrown because Bottas apparently didn’t put his wheel on correctly, so a marshal had to try and do it. He succeeded but then the car wouldn’t go in neutral so they needed a crane. Use of a crane = automatic SC. Pretty obvious why.
Finally caught up. I couldn't even bother to vote for US and Mexico after Brazil. That was great to watch - how good is it to have Verstappen and Hamilton duelling. Ferrari taking each other out and two debut podiums. I nearly went a 10, but 9 is sufficient.
