Bottom post of the previous page:

It will be interesting to see who ends up leading into T!, with Charles worried he will give Lewis a tow in the long run to T1 and give Lewis an easy pass. Lewis has already said he is hoping to ‘tow the life out of Leclerc’ at the start.

Of course we have the variation of Merc starting on medium tyres with Ferrari on soft perhaps giving them more early pace and a better warm up, although Mercedes may be able to strike on strategy when it comes to pit stop time, with Ferrari no doubt going to stop earlier than Merc.

Useless information regarding Sochi qualy.
- The last time a Ferrari driver took 4 straight poles (Michael Schumacher, 2000/01), Leclerc was 3 years old.

- Sebastian Vettel has been out-qualified by Ferrari team mate Leclerc at all 9 races since he lost victory in Montreal.

- By taking second to Valtteri Bottas’s fifth, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton out-qualified a team mate in Sochi for the first time in 5 years.

- Even with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull grid penalty lifting him to fourth, this will be Bottas's worst-ever starting position in Russia.

- Thanks to his penalty, Verstappen will still never have started in the top 6 in Sochi.

- Carlos Sainz will be fifth on the grid for McLaren, tying his career-best starting position, as previously achieved in Spain 2015 and Hungary 2018.

- Raikkonen went out in Q1 for only the 2nd time in the last 4 and a half years – the other time was Montreal this year.

- At Williams, rookie George Russell out-qualified Robert Kubica for the 16th consecutive race.

So, with all the known penalties included this is the grid for the race tomorrow.

Right you are, they are building something on the track so all but the short circuit will be unusable.

St. Pete's would be welcomed by all. Surely it can't be as bad as Sochi.

I keep talking of the run to T1, but the reality is that the official T1 is flat as a witches tit, and the actual action corner will be T2, 900 flat out metres from the start/finish line to the braking zone.

The other factor I have not mentioned is what chance Vettel uses his speed advantage and gets a double tow into T2?

Big crash in formula 2. Everyone's ok, but lots of concern regarding the bollard on re-entry after T2. It's not a great set-up

Although it's worth adding that one driver missed one of the bollards which caused the whole thing, but still it looks dodgy to me

I see Twitter going mental about if Matsushita was ok - it was a big hit but wow, Hubert's death has made the casual fans jumpy and into pussies really.

Really wasn't the sort of thing that would cause fatal injuries. Pretty routine really, and these casual fans are the same ones we want to attract?

They're also the same ones saying don't show accident replays - the accidents are a part of it. If it were up to them then Motorsport would be broadcast with a 20 second delay so we can stop the world seeing the reality of Motorsport.

Sadly, Motorsport needs to show these horrific accidents in a way, because they're educational and hopefully stop people being reckless.

I was watching on sky F1, only half of my attention I must admit as I was looking after my son. The commentators seemed worried and didn't show any replays until it was confirmed that everyone was ok, so I don't think it was entirely the fault of the fans, on this occasion.

There was a fair amount of damage to the front end. Certainly not fatal, but an awkward entry into the barrier which could have snapped a leg I suppose.

Love me a 9pm race.

Anyone know why this race is 2 hours early? Or is it just the Putin factor?
