Jules died for nothing.
Because tarmac run-offs are useless in the rain. I argued my case before and got lambasted for it. Just look at the Sepang monsoons to see how gravel stops a car sliding out of control better.
Hell, the 2007 Nurburging parking lot in T1 gravel caused less mayhem if you exclude Liuzzi almost collecting the safety car while still spinning on the track

Great race! Shame CLAP was out. I was rooting for him to finally get it. Was happy to see Kimi battling it up there. He held Vettel behind him for most of the race. Shame he pitted for slicks a tiny bit too late in the last phase.
Also good to see lesser drivers like Stroll in the mix, although Gasly got a million chances to get near the front and he didn’t take any of them!

What happened to Ham and "going too slowly behind the SC"? I completely missed that bit, did they show replays of it?
True! To be honest I was speculating that the investigation was triggered because Hamilton’s tyres got too cold / were the wrong tyres so he didn’t want to drive fast knowing the SC was out. He then probably fell out of the time window but I’m dure it must have been a red herring.

It was a phantom investigation that was initiated by him going off under SC and then heading to the pits.
Both Alfas have just been penalised meaning Kubica and Williams score their first point of the season. I'm guessing that means Hamilton moves into P9. More info shortly.

These are the sorts of penalties I hate the most - those for infringements we cannot see live during the race.
It's frustrating.. but I understand that they're often necessary. F1 is incredibly technical. There's so much going on that we can't see..
People always seemed to be getting disqualified for technical reasons post race, back in the nineties.. if anything, it's much less common now (unless I'm mis-remembering)

Yeah, not gonna mention the 1981 Indy 500 but the 1995 CART Portland race needed like 4 months to sort out the winner because of the damn appeal which directly impacted the title race. Those were much worse cases than today.

Yeah...
Not so keen on the penalty post race. There was enough chaos that it should have been sorted out on the track.
However, the silver lining is points for Kubica. His last points were in 2010. Supposedly it sets a record for time between points finishes? Need to go back and find the source.
It was a great race otherwise. But I don't understand how Hamilton could not make it past more backmarkers with the new tires.

Particularly when the tarmac is also the start area of a drag strip and totally smooth no doubt with thick layers of rubber on it. It glistened in the wet.

Yes it is true, by a margin of nearly a year. 8 years and 8 months gap.
Here are the 3 longest gaps between points finishes:
Well I thought it was a Hamilton / Merc cert so I went out and decided not to watch live.... What a pleasant surprise to come home to and press the play button on the recording. Something happening all through the race. Highlights for me were the Merc pitstop for Hamilton where they were running around like headless chooks trying to sort out tyres etc. Being right at the far end of pitlane and knowing he had pitted one would think they had time to get their shit together.
When was the last time we had a race winner who completed a 360 and continued?
Pissed off about the Alfa penalty. Why cant they get a team fine in the same way as Ferrari did for a dangerous release. Happy for Kubica (widh it had been Russel) but pissed that it promotes Hamilton to the points to continue his run of points scores.
Hopefully the Alfa appeal will be successful.
