Hulk knocks back McLaren Indycar Offer

I mentioned this in the Indycar thread....so ultimatelely with his dislike of Formula E, his dislike of Ovals (the reaon he declined McLarens Indycar offer) his opportunities are still just Williams and Alfa. Marko has told Nico to stop phoning him re RBR/STR seats. He still seems to think there is a chance, even though he appeared to rule out driving for Williams just a few days ago.

Personally I think Williams are too drawn in to Latifi's millions $$$ , and certainly are not in a position to pay Hulkenberg what he seems to value himself at.

Williams seem to be keen on him returning but confirm no talks have happened. Claire Williams told the German broadcaster RTL: "We haven’t spoken to him yet so we don’t know if he would be interested in driving for us.

"But Nico is a great driver and we are looking for great drivers. We would definitely talk to him."
Nico Hulkenberg has turned down an offer to drive for McLaren in the British marque’s first full Indycar season next year.

"I have a lot of respect for those who race on ovals, it’s just not my thing," said the German, after McLaren boss Zak Brown revealed the failed talks in Singapore.

Earlier, the Renault refugee had also ruled out Formula E, saying the all-electric series is "not exactly exciting".

"Formula 1 blood flows in my veins," Hulkenberg insisted.

The 32-year-old has already missed out on the Haas seat, and Antonio Giovinazzi looks set to keep his Ferrari-promoted seat at Alfa Romeo.

Giovinazzi’s father Vito has apparently been telling people in the paddock that his 25-year-old son has already signed up for 2020.

"Don’t ever believe a father," Hulkenberg laughed.

"They sit here all day, talking and drinking a little and talking a little more.

"I’m calm. Let’s see what happens," he added.

Hulkenberg also revealed in Singapore that Red Bull’s Dr Helmut Marko had told him to stop phoning.

"Hulkenberg is hard to imagine for Red Bull," Marko told Germany’s Motorsport-Magazin.com in Singapore. "We look at the external options, but no one would be a significant improvement."

Hulkenberg told Sky Italia: "There is still a realistic possibility of staying in Formula 1.

"It’s difficult to talk about specifics, because as you can imagine that’s private details. But everyone knows what places are available.

"Right now I am still totally focused on Formula 1."

Orlen CEO has said that Robert Kubica "will stay in F1 with us". He also said Kubica's future will be known within the next 6-8 weeks.

We have a general election on Sunday but everything suggests the current government party will retain majority so there will be no changes at Orlen which means their involvment in F1 will continue most likely.

I thought I'd posted that somewhere. Apparently it would mean Orlen becoming the Haas title sponsor for 2020.

All of that adds up very nicely. No one would take Kubica as a full-time driver again. I guess this is why they ban drivers from racing other series while under contract with an F1 team.

It would be a bit of a shame to lose Kubica, but then again, his performances haven't been eye-openers (like eg. wtih Renault back in 2010).
Of course, Red Bull could be an option, as nothing has yet been confirmed?

An option for who?

He is far too old for Red Bull, and behind Albon Gasly et al in performance and potential. He is no longer the driver he was. Blunt, maybe, sad yes, but true. He tried hard..

Kubica is too slow! Period. Don't know how much his disability has anything to do with it, but his status has been slammed by a rookie.
Kubica to Red Bull, @antonov?? Are you serious?

Well, if he's convinced he'll stay in F1, I'm just looking at the (little) options which are open still.

Red Bull Racing is for him a closed door. Slammed!

Kubica to Red Bull
It's obvious Kubica's right hand is impaired but Williams didn't manufacture a special steering wheel for him until Monza. Just shows you what kind of amateur shitshow there is right now. Not to mention Russell uses the supreme #1 chassis continuously since Round 5 while Kubica is using the back-up or even the third tier chassis.

Kubica himself said they'd have run out of spare parts sooner than Russia if they were involved in more crashes earlier in the season :haha: The two hits Russell had in Singapore & Russia finally left them short-handed.

Lol, Polish people always defending Kubica with the chassis comment.

Why has Russel since Round 5 the best chassis?

And the gaps between the two:

This team doesn't have enough spare parts and I should believe Claire Williams over her strictly manufacturing comments? Why?

What's your excuse for the lack of a proper steering wheel for Kubica?

I'd laugh my ass off if Latifi beats Russell's ass next season ;)

Yes, why should you believe Claire? You are more an insider than she is.
