Bottom post of the previous page:

Meh. In 10 years time half of the F1 grid will be there based on their family connections. Thank God we were spared Nicolas Prost and Mathias Lauda.

Lewis has two dogs, Rosco and Coco. Clearly I got them confused and names muddled together :haha:

I'm watching F1 since 1991 and sure as heck I didn't know ANY drivers' pet names over that period  And now you give me Rosco & Coco? :haha:

Pretty sure James Hunt had the odd pet or two, and I'm not talking about his budgies :whistling:

Indeed his dog, IIRC an Alsation / German Shepherd Dog, was named Oscar. James had always said he was one with an affinity to animals. (sic!)
He actually named his nightclub Oscar's after his dog. He often used to be at the Greyhound pub in Weybridge, (the nearest pub to where I worked at the time, 100 metres or so away in fact) and his Mercedes 450 SLC (well before his A35 van days) would often be parked outside the pub. Oscar was always with him.

Interesting story I read about James recently was he had said that his habit of throwing up before races had initially started when he was paying for his own motor racing... as with Niki Lauda James had done so with money he had scrounged / borrowed. He claimed it was nothing to do with a fear of dying initially.... it was more a fear of he might damage his car and not be able to pay for repairs..... in his own words:
"I was sick with tremendous nerve pressure," he said. "But that was basically because I was driving my own car, and if I crunched it, I was out of money and there was no way I could repair the car. So it was fear of my future on the financial side and on the job-security side. Nothing to do with danger."
Of course later he was fearing for his life before F1 races when he was being paid to race. His answer to that was to find a 'sheila' and be having 'a root' as close to race time as possible. To back this up Patrick Head said literally 10 minutes before the start of the famous Fuji GP he had walked into a pit garage store room to find James with his race suit round his ankles having 'the time of his life' with some Japanese girl. Whilst the other drivers would be pacing around on the grid, going for panic pees etc, James was busy 'burying the beef'!

Getting back to James nickname of Hunt the Shunt Max Mosely said that in fact although James did have a few shunts, everyone did in the feeder series, and it was more the fact that journos coined the name Hunt the Shunt because it rhymed and made for good headlines. (like an early day clickbait.... readbait I guess it would be)

Oooops... I appear to have digressed from the topic of the thread, the far more interesting (not) prospects of this bloke with the same surname as his WDC father being touted as the next ..... (insert as applicable) :sarcasm:

I'm disappointed. Really am. I would have thought it's part of general knowledge.

Am I right, @Everso Biggyballies?
