I'm guessing they'll start the process now, procrastinate over it for 10-20 years and then give up before the job is complete and leave with their tail between their legs and a trail of destruction in their wake?

Seems very familiar.

So F1 has gone to bed with another oppressive regime in other to get a few bucks out of a street race.

I'll try to keep an open mind, but let's say, that I am not hopeful of this being a good race.

Does Vietnam have a motorsport following? I doubt it, given the number of empty stands in other Asian races outside of Japan.

A street circuit in Hanoi..... no thanks. Especially not if it is at the expense of another existing circuit. I dont have high hopes of it being even remotely attended. They are soccer mad there... but a top game only costs less than 5 Euros to get in.

Since when has an existing motorsport base come into the thinking for a new circuit? At least not for a long time. What we see now are countries on an upwardly trending economy wanting to grab some international attention and show off a bit.

Layout looks interesting. Seen far worse. But honestly, don't care.

The best part is that it won't be at a shit time.

What on earth were they thinking?

They have two nice, long straights, but then they inserted a funny Mexico-style roundabout (the one at the stadium) after each one, which ruins it all. A simple hairpin would have done the trick.

And those S's are already giving me a headache just looking at the layout.

There isn't one single straightforward corner.

The last three before the start-finish straight are a replica of the medium-fast corners in Malaysia before the back straight - i.e. the corners I dislike the most. That's another overtaking chance ruined.

Image

When are we ever going to have a simple track again?

EDIT: just noticed the track is actually anti-clockwise so at least we'll get that hairpin after that huge straight.

Also I was thinking about those huge parallel straights and I wonder what kind of barriers will be erected in the middle. A big crash on either straight could spillover onto the other straight, (e.g. the barriers are too low and the car, wheels or any other appendage flies over to the other side) which could be potentially very dangerous.

Looking at the tuk tuk video F1 posted the grass the divider between the avenues are at least 2 lanes with the street at least 3. Baku is narrower and that seems to manage fine.

The big question is myownalias's is there a big enough domestic motor sport following in Vietnam to sustain the race or is it going to be a 3 year dwindling attendance deal to vanish like Korea and India(I cant even remember India 9/10s of the time).

Depends on how much the government is willing to underwrite it and take a hit for TV exposure for tourism and general prestige if they're a dodgy government.

Best comment ever:-

"Donald Trump would love this track, nothing but walls, walls, walls, walls."

:haha:

Frankly, there's nothing remotely redeeming about it and it makes even look Sochi look like it has character.
