Yes. There is simply no progression in his performance. He stays at least 1 second off pace compared to Hulkenberg. Plus his race pace is in a reverse.Sainz to replace Palmer at Renault from US GP

We've seen this before. Palmer will improve incrementally enough to stay until the end of the year. All he has to do is keep it on the black stuff. This seems more like wishful thinking on everyone's part (including the teams).
The last driver to get replaced mid season was due to multiple accidents and controversy (Kivyat). It's not the same case w Palmer.

Perhaps this entire discussion should be in the 2018 silly season-thread.

Agreed.
While it was good to see Robert back in the test, you could read between the lines it wasn't exactly in line with the expectations (nor Renault's, nor Robert's). I don't think we will see Kubica back in F1.
I am pretty sure Williams will continue with Stroll, and it has indicated Massa will not be retained.
Wehrlein might be an option for 2018, although I heard Perez could also be a candidate.

It would be almost a case of the blind leading the blind with a very raw Stroll and it has to be said a raw Kubica who you couldn't expect to be amazing out of the box (thinks back to Hungaroring garage exit... cough). But I guess he'd take a cheap contract, and could be worth a punt assuming he can bring himself back up to a good level.

Perez is all but sealed at Force? for another term.... the final hiccup was to finalise the separate contracts with his benefactors. He wants to stay, the team want him to stay, the bottom line of ensuring his sponsors want to stay is the final sticking point, but they seem to be happy to proceed. (They pay Perez retainer as part of the sponsorship package) Bottom line seems that in the unlikely scenario of Perez sponsors backing out, then 'the Force wont be with him.' (Perez).

To strengthen the Palmer out by Malaysia replaced by Sainz rumour are new stories suggeting Gasly will be making his F1 debut at Malaysia, predictably driving for STR (He is an RBR Junior). Gasly himself has allegedly confirmed discussions to this end are in place with news confirmed (one way or the other) soon.
For his part Gasly had another successful weekend in the Super Formula Japan series, wrapping up a second straight win. He is currently lying 2nd in the title race, just 5 points shy of leader Hiroaki Ishiura with two races to go. Felix Rosenqvist is third, just half a point behind Gasly."I've heard the story and I think all the details are being worked out now," Frenchman Gasly, first in line for a vacancy at the Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso, said in Japan where he races in the Super Formula series.
"Getting into formula one is my dream and I am making every effort to fulfil it," the 21-year-old is quoted by the Japanese source F1 Sokuho.
"I think there could be movement in the next couple of days, there may be some news, and I really hope that I can race (for Toro Rosso) in Malaysia," Gasly added.

Gasly, powered by a Honda in the Japanese Super Formula, thanks Honda for the wonderful support following two well timed (and first) wins after the news breaks that Toro Rosso who are owned by his sponsor Red Bull are likely to Honda in 2018. Nothing like winning gets Helmut Markko's attention. All pure coincidence. Obviously.Everso Biggyballies wrote: ↑6 years ago To strengthen the Palmer out by Malaysia replaced by Sainz rumour are new stories suggeting Gasly will be making his F1 debut at Malaysia, predictably driving for STR (He is an RBR Junior).
