They should go after the people that actually matter - the people who have money to spend, and their children either fall in line or they don't.
These people are actively turning me off of F1 - I've actually been called a racist for saying that Lewis wasn't responsible for this Merc team, as all five of the designers of the W05 Hybrid in 2014 pre-dated him.
It's a fucking fact, and these people are so angry they called me racist. The cult that surrounds Hamilton really turns me off, almost as much as him winning.
I share your frustration about this. There were factors in the game prior Hamilton joined MB, and influence of those formed footing for what had followed (IMO). Hamilton, as his peers, today can only report in debriefing on handling of his car, and as accurately as possible to describe improvements on car handling potentially helpful for advancement of driver's tangible racing performance. I think that's about all. Team stability of course helped to MB' team fine tune it that elusive symbiotic relationship to perfection step by step, from race to race.

One of the big things for me is that when Mercedes are under real pressure, they buckle REALLY badly. Panics over pitstops, going onto the wrong strategy, calling cars into the pits and then saying stay out when it's too late etc. They've had some real clusterfuck weekends and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - i'd love to see what they'd be like against an in form Red Bull and Ferrari.
Seb had to content with 4 challengers in 2010. Lewis hasn't ever had to deal with more than 2 challengers for any title, and most of them have been against one driver.

Oh...I don't know about that. Hamilton pretty much had four challengers in 2007 when he lost it by one point (Raikkonen, Alonso, Massa) and four challengers in 2008 when he won it by one point (Massa, Raikkonen, Kubica).
Now I am seeing stories that Hamilton leaves Mercedes next year and Verstappen and Russell take the two seats there.
1. Any validity to this?
2. If Hamilton left Mercedes and did not retire, where would he go (Red Bull?)?
3. Not that anyone cares, but where would Bottas go?

I wouldn't leave red bull until I know how their 2022 car is shaping up.
That's the difficulty. Make the wrong 2022 move and you could be locked into a few years of misery
Considering that most people consider him the best driver after Hamilton (Or even ahead of Hamilton) he should really have his pick. But he wouldn't want to leave, then see Perez become champion in the 2022 Red Bull.
If I were him I'd stay put, see how the new generation looks, and if Red Bull isn't cutting it, move for 2023.

But then Russell could be a WC and looking to lock him out. Oooo the intrigue
