Alternatives to Rapidshare

Can everyone download with Rapidshare?

Do you think, to make it fair, we should stop the use of Rapidshare on the forum? So much stuff is being uploaded with it, and I personally can't download from it at all anymore.

There's plenty of other free file hosts on the internet...so, what do you think?

I have no problems with rapidshare. The only thing is you have to wait an hour or so between downloading files if you are above a certain limit. The good thing is, it is very fast concidering being a free service.

THere's also something called megaupload, but the speed is just terrible, I have never, never had the patience to finish a download from that website.

Other than that, I don't know...

Only drawback is that the file is deleted after 30 days.

Seeing as we also have only a small number of people downloading files, maybe people could use www.yousendit.com and upload their files say, three times, so you have the same file up, but three times the amount of downloads and three times the amount of bandwidth.

I've never bothered,but, you can delete their cookie and go back to get more in less than an hour...without the cookie, they don't know ya been there.

Tried that, it doesn't work. It goes on IP addresses as well as cookies.

I don't mind Rapid Share, as long as it keeps the contributions flowing. If anyone can not D/L from that site, ask me to D/L. I'll then upload it to my server.

I dont really like rapidshare all that much. See as I have Dial-up, I cant add the file to GetRight to download later.

I use megaupload.com to upload stuff to. Apparently it's slow compared to other providers, but it is free & you can download as much you want in any given time.

I've added a poll and voted yes...but I won't ban the use of it until I've got at least a 10 votes, and at least a 75% majority saying yes.

It's annoying, coz I can't download anything from it. And there's probably others who can't either. And it's unfair for people like me who can't download anything

Normally deleted if not been downloaded in 30 days...so, I suppose they MAY stay up for longer

Each upload is restricted to 500mb. Files will be kept for a minimum of 30 days, but normally deleted if they have not been downloaded once in 30 days, however, we only delete if our hard drive space is running low. We have 2 terabytes of hard drive, as such we will keep deleting minimal. Bandwidth is unlimited, unless the file causes a degraded service to other users.
