Best way to separate downloads from YouTube videos?
I stopped providing downloads some time ago, partly because I ran out of material, partly because I thought no one wanted to download any more and preferred streaming. Now I've discovered YouTube isn't a good option because they keep removing our videos and giving us penalties, and we need downloads again.
Previously, our forum looked like this:
https://web.archive.org/web/20040604023 ... om/phpBB2/
We had a section called ONLINE VIDEOS, so any downloads provided by the Admin team would be posted there. Everyone else's threads went into Crash/Motorsport Videos. I'm thinking of recreating Online Videos and letting people post their own downloads there. Does that sound like a good idea? Does the current system work? Or should we just remove all YouTube threads from the current video sections, and create a YouTube forum only?

Couldn't you just have a dedicated thread for all YouTube stuff and seperate threads for downloads?
I am very sorry if you find my posts long and boring, I like to type and often go off on a tangent.

The Youtube videos have dominated the videos sections these past few years and the uploads done by the admins and have got a little lost. But the Youtube stuff is still valid and creates some good discussion. It should be separated out.Ian-S wrote:Couldn't you just have a dedicated thread for all YouTube stuff and seperate threads for downloads?
Here's my suggestion:
Fastlane Multimedia
Online Motorsport Videos
- Offline Videos subforum
Online Crash Videos
- Offline Videos subforum
Youtube Videos
- Full Races and Highlights subforum
- Motorsport Videos (as it is now) subforum
- Crashes subforum
The photos and request sections can remain the same.

Mostly what Kieran says, Ian. I worked quite hard to separate the 'YouTube Crash Videos' thread into separate ones, but even now there are 95 pages of old crashes waiting to be split into separate threads. I'm very tempted to leave them, I doubt anyone will watch them anyway.
That's quite an interesting proposition Kieran! I'd still be tempted to have only one section for Online Videos rather than two though. Hmm, we'll see.

Yup I agree with Kieran's suggestion too, although my tablet keeps self correcting his name to Korean so maybe we should rename him King Jon Kals?
