On the final lap, Penske team-mates Joey Logano (#22) and Brad Keselowski (#2) misjudged their moves and took each other out coming into Turn 3. Keselowski's Ford was drilled by Kyle Busch (#18), sending it airborne where it clipped the catchfence and ripped open the fuel tank, causing a flash fire as multiple cars were taken out. None of the drivers involved were hurt. Third-place Michael McDowell (#34) slipped through the carnage to take the Daytona 500 victory.
