The biggest wreck of the day occurred on Lap 160. Race leader Harry Gant (#33) was tagged from behind by Bobby Hillin Jr. in the back straightaway, turning Gant head-on into the outside wall. Phil Parsons went momentarily airborne as he spun in the infield grass, while other cars spun in the fracas. No one was seriously hurt.
