Kevin Lepage (#61) did one of the dumbest things in motorsport history, pulling up onto the race track from pit road infront of the main pack of cars going 190mph, causing a massive pileup. Carl Edwards (#60) was the first who struck Lepage, sending his car flying up into the air and into Steve Wallace (#66), several others crashed while trying to avoid the accident.
Lepage at first denied responsibility in the accident, saying that other cars had failed to get around him as he merged onto the racing surface, however after reviewing footage later accepted responsibility and issued an apology to all those involved. Lepage wasn't sanctioned by NASCAR regarding the accident, however his reputation was significantly damaged.
