As one chaotic incident occurred in Turn 1, another chaotic shunt happened almost simultaneously in Turn 2. McLaren team-mates Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya collided with one another, sending Raikkonen spinning in front of the pack. Montoya then clipped the side of Honda's Jenson Button, who in turn drove into the side of Nick Heidfeld. The impact was hard enough to tip the BMW Sauber over, throwing it into a spectacular triple barrel roll down the length of the gravel trap. The lone American in the field, Toro Rosso's Scott Speed, was also taken out after a collision with Montoya significantly damaged the rear end. Luckily, Heidfeld and the others involved were able to walk away unscathed.
