Marcus Ericsson suffered a hard crash during FP3 at the 2016 British Grand Prix. His Sauber lost rear-end traction on the curbs and astroturf on the exit of Stowe, and skidded into the tyre barriers on the inside of the track. As the car impacted the barrier it was turned sideways, and the rear-wing was ripped off by the secondary impact of the rear-end against the tyres. The car bounced away from the barrier and came to rest on the edge of the track just short of the pit lane entrance.
Ericsson was not seriously injured, and was cleared to race, but elected to skip qualifying nonetheless. He suffered power unit failure in the race and retired.
