A tight battle for the lead raged on in the closing stages of the Goody's 300. It all came to a head with 3 laps to go, when second place driver Chad Little gave race leader Steve Grissom (#29) the bump-and-run treatment going into Turn 4. Mark Martin (#60) ran into the back of Grissom, spinning him and setting off a chain reaction incident that took out multiple cars. Little escaped the melee to take the victory under caution. No one was injured.
