1969  ยป Firecracker 400

On Lap 128, Buddy Arrington (#67) lost control attempting to avoid a spinning Henley Gray and came to a stop in the middle of the Turn 2 exit. Unable to see through the smoke, Hoss Ellington (#61) slammed broadside into the rear of Arrington's Dodge. At this point, the field was still coming through the crash scene at full speed, despite rescue vehicles moving in on the accident. Ellington escaped his Mercury without a moment to lose, as Bobby Allison (#22) bounced off the wall coming out of Turn 2, crashing into the stationary Ellington car, taking out Ed Hessert (#15) in the process.
