During practice for an ARCA race at the Auto City Speedway in Michigan in 1987, Bob Dotter crashed his car into the wall. The car lifted the guardrail upwards, traveling under it and outside the speedway, causing the car's roof to be opened up like a can opener.
Dotter was surprisingly uninjured in the crash. He purchased another competitor's car, renumbered it, and ran it in the main event.
