The 2019 Clash was run between the raindrops, with the race being delayed prior to and during the event. Paul Menard (#21) had led the majority of the Clash up until 20 laps to go. With heavy rain approaching the area, Jimmie Johnson (#48) sensed the urgency to make a pass for the lead in the backstretch. Menard and Johnson touched fenders; Menard lost control and was sent up into the outside wall directly in from of the field. The ensuing pileup involved 17 of the 20 starters.
As predicted, the rain came a few minutes later, and the race was called, with Jimmie Johnson taking the win.
