Brandon McReynolds (#28) and Todd Gilliland (#4) teamed up to make a charge to the front in the closing stages of the race. Coming down the back straight with 2 laps to go, Gilliland mistimed his push against McReynolds, sending him into the side of third-place driver Bret Holmes (#23), then into the outside wall. Gus Dean (#32) was spun into the outside wall in the ensuing chaos.
