|Description||Near the end of the 250-mile Montamarathon Trophy race, a blown tyre in a turn caused Billy Carlson's car to be hurled off the high edge of the track. Riding mechanic Paul Franzen, 24, was thrown from the car, hit a stump and died at the circuit. Carlson, 24, was taken to a local hospital where he passed away the following day. It was reported that Carlson chose to drive with used tyres because he thought they would perform better on the track than fresh ones.|
