As the field approached the start/finish line with five laps to go, Codie Rohrbaugh (#7) was clipped in the side by Clint King. Rohrbaugh's car bounced off of Justin Fontaine (#33) on the inside line, sending both drivers into the outside wall; Fontaine taking a head-on impact. Fontaine's car tumbled onto its roof and slid upside down towards the end of the tri-oval before coming to rest. After righting the car, rescue workers had to cut open the roof in order to safely extract an injured Fontaine from the car. He was rushed to Halifax Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a mild compression fracture of his L1 vertebrae.
Because of lengthy repairs to the SAFER barrier resulting from Fontaine's impact, combined with impending rain, the race was called short of its scheduled distance.
