On the 72nd lap, Johnny Sauter (#30), Brian Vickers (#25), and Michael Waltrip (#15) collided into one another as they exited Turn 2. Waltrip spun towards the infield, where another hit by Robby Gordon (#31) caused his right rear tire to come loose and, eventually, completely off. He continued to slide through the infield grass until the exposed hub of the missing tire dug into the grass, sending Waltrip's Chevy tumbling violently through the air, enveloped in a large cloud of dirt. Waltrip was able to walk away uninjured from the accident.
